Festivals & Events

Festivals in Cairns are varied and plentiful, taking place throughout the year they offer locals and tourists alike a wide array of things to do whilst allowing the tourism industry to seize every opportunity to place visitors in direct contact with local culture.

Festivals range from international cricket and rugby tournaments to jazz events, film festivals, carnival parades and winter solstice celebrations and a number of festivals highlight the region’s long-standing indigenous heritage.

Of particular note is the annual Cairns Festival which has been running since 1961 and now attracts over 20,000 spectators.  Held in late August/early September for a two-week period, the festival includes musical performances, cultural demonstrations, food and wine and a number of reef and dive activities.
